Facebook halts development of controversial Instagram for Kids following unfavourable internal research: The Newsfeed

To no surprise, Facebook has paused the development of its controversial app Instagram for Kids. This comes shortly after The Wall Street Journal published a series of reports revealing how Instagram’s own internal research suggested the app impacted the mental health of teenage girls. In a series of tweets, head of Instagram Adam Mosseri continued to defend the concept and clarified the app would be specifically created for tweens aged 10 to 12 but added that he will be using the time to work with parents and regulators moving forward. However, it is unclear how long this will continue to be in effect.
